At the September 1, 2011, Mantua Township Trustees meeting, Terri Vechery reported on the recent activities of what had been called the Volunteer Mantua Center School Open House Committee:
We met with new members and discussed renaming [the committee]. We will now be The Friends of Mantua Center School. That will be the official name.
We discussed asking the trustees if we could do a fundraiser/halloween party at the school. We would have a pumpkin judging contest. [Children would] bring an already painted or carved pumpkin. Categories would be Preschool-Kindergarten, Grades 1-2, and Grades 3-4. Any funds that we raise have not been earmarked, but we will let you know.
The agreed-upon date is Sunday, October 30, from 1p.m. to 4 p.m. That is the day before the official Beggars' Night.
If we could have permission to use the school, we can go ahead with the plans and advertising because we will only have a few weeks.
Mark: What do you guys think?
Jason to Mark: What are your thoughts? I would say stay in the annex.
Dave Pollard, committee member: We have discussed that the exterior of the bell cupola could use some repairs and we thought we would try ringing the bell to raise money for that repair. It was popular during the Open House, and we thought that for a donation, children could help ring the bell. So that was one of the things we discussed as a fundraiser, and specifically to repair the bell tower. If there is anything extra, we can decide which part of the general fund to donate it to.
Jason: It would probably have to stay in the annex area. Mark concurred.
Terri: It will be good to get the community used to using the building. We hope to have a few [fundraisers] a year.
Blogger: A closing restatement: Mark the date for the next opportunity to be in the Center School: Sunday, October 30, from 1p.m.-4p.m.
Even though this is a kid-themed event, we welcome adults who may have missed the open house, and we are planning what food to serve and how to figure cost. Remember, this is the kickoff fundraiser to help on the rehabilitation of the school. We would love to see you there!

FAX, 330-274-8447. E-mail, fiscalofficer@mantuatownshipohio.gov. The minutes are also posted on the website after they have been approved. That means that there is usually a two-week lag between a given meeting and the minutes being available to read on the website.
Since meetings are the first and third Thursdays of the month, there is a three-week wait during months with five Thursdays.
Other items of interest or the writer's opinions will be included from time to time, clearly identified.
This is not a forum or chat room, but a source of information, so it is closed to outside input.
During the time I have been doing the blog, the posts have expanded to become very detailed accounts of the meetings. Doing that is time consuming, to say the least, and I am going to try to return to the public comment focus, with background and perspective (and the occasional pointed editorial comment). Such additions are usually enclosed in brackets. However, since some extended accounts of the meetings reveal significant things--and character--better than I could by commenting, there will probably still be a fair amount of semi-transcript. (Sigh.)
