The first event is this weekend, April 28, at the Mantua Center School building:
The annual meeting of The Mantua Restoration Society, Inc.
We usually gather at noon for a light lunch, provided by Jake's, of slider sandwiches--where did they get that name?--and then the business meeting at 1:00.
There will be the small amount of business that is customary: review the minutes from last year's meeting--does anyone remember a whole lot about that?--get a report of our accomplishments since last year, and elect officers, not necessarily in that order.
Terri Vechery will be the speaker this year. As we at last and finally get closer to the elevator being finished and a community center in the building, Terri seemed like a good choice for speaker. The roots of the township's owning the school actually go back to just before 2000. Terri has been involved in the township, the school, and other community things for that whole time and can give some perspective and continuity on the last nearly 20 years, plus a glance to the future.
After Terri's presentation, people will be able to join or re-join, take a look at the memorabilia we have somehow collected, and then kick back for potluck and conversation. So come, join or re-join, and bring a favorite dish to share.
If you go away hungry, it's your own fault.
Township Cleanup Day
May 5, Cinqo de Mayo, is going to be busy in and around the township.
Township cleanup day runs from about 7:30 until 3 or so, or until the dumpsters are full.
Come prepared to unload your trunk, truck, or trailer yourself--the township is not providing "valet unloading."
No kitchen waste, please--aka garbage.
What else is going on?
There is a Cinqo de Mayo 5K run in the morning--check at Advanced Rehab for details.
After that, I heard there was some kind of special libation at Jake's Eats, but don't quote me on that. I may have heard wrong.
If you're not big on running, never fear. Go to Mantua Christian Hilltop Church for Quilts in the Village and high tea. This will so far as I know become an every-other-year event. The first one, two years ago, was lovely--definitely worth seeing, and a complete BARGAIN at $2.00 admission.

Trustees' decisions are in the official minutes, available on request from the Mantua Township Fiscal Officer, Jodi Thompson, at 330-274-8443. The Township charges 10 cents per page. FAX, 330-274-8447. E-mail, fiscalofficer@mantuatownshipohio.gov. The minutes are also posted on the website after they have been approved. That means that there is usually a two-week lag between a given meeting and the minutes being available to read on the website.
Since meetings are the first and third Thursdays of the month, there is a three-week wait during months with five Thursdays.
Other items of interest or the writer's opinions will be included from time to time, clearly identified.
This is not a forum or chat room, but a source of information, so it is closed to outside input.
During the time I have been doing the blog, the posts have expanded to become very detailed accounts of the meetings. Doing that is time consuming, to say the least, and I am going to try to return to the public comment focus, with background and perspective (and the occasional pointed editorial comment). Such additions are usually enclosed in brackets. However, since some extended accounts of the meetings reveal significant things--and character--better than I could by commenting, there will probably still be a fair amount of semi-transcript. (Sigh.)
My thanks to the readers who have found the blog, and to the ones who from time to time tell me that they value it. You have encouraged me when the tedious work of keyboarding has made me wonder why I am doing this. Then you have reminded me, and I am grateful.

I have discovered that a transcript is almost impossible to do and that verbatim accounts are usually not absolutely necessary. When in doubt, I check against a recording.
